The Australian Computer Society ICT skills assessment applications is assessed in three stages

ICT skills assessment Australia stage one
An applicant’s qualifications are assessed against the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) to ensure that they are comparable to the Australian benchmark.

Usually an undergraduate degree in an ICT related specialization is required. Microsoft, CISCO, and PRINCE qualifications (whilst relevant) are unlikely to carry much weight at ICT skills assessment so an undergraduate degree is always preferable

ICT skills assessment Australia stage two
The applicant’s qualification will be assessed to determine the amount of ICT content within the qualification based on University transcripts.

ICT skills assessment Australia stage three
Only once a qualification is determined as being of an Australian standard, and carries the requisite number of directly relevant modules does the Australian Computer Society then look at an applicant’s employment and professional history to determine the amount of employment and professional history.

The Australian Qualifications Framework and its relevance to an ICT Skills Assessment

Its commonplace in ICT Skills Assessments for some non-Australian degrees to be placed at a higher or lower standard than their Australian equivalents which highlights the benefits of engaging an ICT Skills Assessment professional.

ICT Skills Assessment and the amount of professional experience required varies slightly between all the different ICT Australia Occupation Codes yet in generalized terms the following tend to prove true:

-Bachelor’s Degree with ICT major closely related to the nominated occupation will require 2 years’ experience in the last ten
-Bachelor’s Degree with an ICT major not closely related to the nominated occupation will require 4 years of relevant work experience completed at any time
-Bachelor’s Degree or higher with an ICT minor closely related to the nominated occupation will require at least 5 years of relevant work experience in the last ten
-Bachelor’s Degree or higher with an ICT minor not closely related to the nominated occupation will require 6 years of relevant work experience at any time

What happens for an ICT Skills Assessment when an applicant has a qualification that’s not recognized by the Australian Qualifications Framework?

In this instance the Lets Go Global ICT Skills Assessment experts will work closely with you to prepare what is known as a ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (“RPL”) application. The RPL is lengthy, challenging and time consuming and will ideally be completed by an ICT Skills Assessment expert. A badly formatted RPL application will often lead directly to a negative ICT Skills Assessment result.

In general, a successful RPL ICT Skills Assessment application will require an applicant to submit two very detailed experience based project reports evidencing their ICT knowledge.

What happens once an applicant receives a positive ICT Skills Assessment Result?
The award of a positive ICT Skills Assessment for Australia is indeed cause for a mini celebration. It’s a tough, challenging and complex process to navigate although it’s only the first step in many more that will ultimately lead to a successful Australian permanent residency application. Upon receipt of a positive assessment the lets go global team will then proceed with your Expression of Interest.
